Green Man Cup (Bradwell Pursuit)     02/07/2000

Finishing Positions

Cygnet of Arden Nick Green 1st
Mackie II John Clark 2nd
Tongue Twister Andy Hobden 3rd
Psyche Gary Crees 4th
Moana Chris Peet 5th
Perpetua Peter Anderson 6th

Naturally, first off at 09:30 were Muddy & Psyche, running down towards the Nass, as the other boats sailed back and forth in the gradually narrowing channel.  The last boat to start, Mackie II crossed the line at 09:56, as Psyche & Muddy were tacking back towards us to go on to M3.  Already, it was clear that the usual "head to head" between the two 26' sisters was on again........

..........or maybe not!!!  All of a sudden, close to the shore near Shinglehead Point, Muddy's sails were lowered and Muddy started to reverse.  I can only assume that with Martin's family background in farming, he had decided that the furrows in the mud under the water were not quite to standard and therefore he should get on with some ploughing!!!  (Sorry Martin, I couldn't resist it!!! - Pete).

Continuing the race, Cygnet steadily overtook boat after boat, increasing her lead on the run from Thirslet Spit buoy to the finish post at Bradwell, to where unfortunately, she beat the Yellow Peril!!!  (Due to the relatively inclement weather (windy) Toby Green and I decided to join Muddy on a swinging mooring in Bradwell Creek to shelter pending the finish)

All boats finished, it was the turn of Yellow Peril to do her once a year ferry job - actually twice this year as we decided there were too many people for one run.  To the Green Man for lunch in time old tradition.

The Green Man was superb, Ale flowed, Food enjoyed and all to live background music (apparently a regular Sunday lunch feature), we even had a brief visit from the Air Ambulance - thankfully just stopping for a break between calls, and just in case anyone gets the wrong idea, No! they did not go in the pub!!!  Then it was back to the Peril and return to Tollesbury after a great day, enjoyed by all.
